Currently reading a #typography book, and the authors have a random remark about some "Berthold ProfiPage" nostalgia, as that had some capabilities regarding justification missing from later software packages (book is early 2000s, so I doubt that has changed, given the lack of progress).

It seems that this was part of the rather fascinating 80s #DTP / phototypesetting era that predates and overlaps with the emerging "holy trinity" of Macintosh/Laserwriter/PageMaker.

Mostly proprietary hardware at quite huge price points. An early Sun workstation seems to be involved in the ProfiPage era, with Unix / XWindows involved. And all delightfully pre-yellowed.

Anyone know more about ProfiPage?

At the same time, the presence of the Dutch armed forces imposes itself on everyone in various ways around the Airborne. It is distasteful and inappropriate to place the military deployment of 1944 against Nazi Germany in the same tradition as the deployment of the military today.

The enormous growth of the armed forces has major negative consequences, both near and far. Militarization here is a threat to the rest of the world, particularly in the Global South. Closer to home, the consequences are also significant. We have seen the large heath fires caused by military exercises. The Defence Readiness Act is on the way, which will soon mean that the military will no longer have to adhere to nature and safety regulations. This comes at the direct expense of our vulnerable, green living environment.

And then there are the cuts to healthcare, education, and social security to pay for the growth of the army. More armed forces make the world less safe. Care, attention to the vulnerable in society, solidarity with people living further away: that increases safety. Stop the war propaganda at Airborne!'

I also love tinkering with CSS themes and creating small tools for the indie web. It's just a hobby, but a satisfying one. Maybe that's the thing, it's satisfying because it's not work.

When I'm not hanging around in dark crawl spaces or getting hung up on dark mode contrast drift, I like snapping photos, reading books, and watching movies.

However, some binaries also depend on proprietary libraries in the DYLD shared cache. "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??", she demands from the couch, surprising you so much that you almost drop your järnväg. "I was.. I've been.." you mumble, but hours of breathing in plastic and glue fumes and eating köttbulle have left your brain and mouth too numb to get the words out.

A year ago I sat down to upgrade #OutFly from #bevy 0.14 to 0.17, and I still haven't managed to fix all the bugs from that. T_T

Like a crash in the physics engine during high speed collisions. At least I got it down from a crash to a massive lag spike, but still not great.

Hope I can release a new version soon. Two open issues left to go:
